Cycling tour to discover Nakatsu's history hidden in the millennium

~ An enlightening journey to experience the origin of rice cultivation culture~

Rice, the staple food in Japan, is not only a food but it is also a significant part of Japanese culture. Rice farming began with the knowledge of rice cultivation, civil engineering, and reservoir techniques being handed down from generation to generation.
There are times when rice production may not be possible due to natural disasters. However, there are also times when we benefit from nature's bounty. People prayed to this natural cycle almost daily and appealed to the gods of the natural world. When rice was harvested, a festival was held to express gratitude to the gods of the natural world. Japanese rice cultivation culture began with the incorporation of foreign techniques and by coexisting with nature.
